Allotments in Norwich

Norwich City Council has more than 2,000 allotment plots on 18 sites which are located throughout the city. Apply for a plot at www.norwich.gov.uk/allotments

Allotment Associations support tenants, organise activities, promote allotments and represent their members to the council. They have regular meetings to discuss issues on the site.

Norwich Allotment Association offers membership to individuals and groups across the city. For details send an email to norwichallotmentassociation@btinternet.com

Norfolk Organic Group is the local group for Garden Organic and the Soil Association, contact the association for talks and information on organic growing. This may be of interest to current plot holders and associations. Further information can be found on the Norfolk Organic website.

Site Associations:

Bluebell North
Bluebell Model Allotment Association: Visit the trading hut on Bluebell North where you can buy allotment essentials and find out more about getting started on your plot. The trading hut is open for most of the year on Thursdays from 2pm to 4pm, on Saturdays from 2pm to 4pm and on Sundays from 10am to midday. Strong Roots: Strong Roots is an exciting innovative therapeutic garden project in Norwich. It is based on four adjoining allotments which are being developed into a shared garden. People who benefit from it include those who experience social isolation. No gardening experience is required. Visit the Strong Roots website for further information.

Bluebell South
Sustainable Living Initiative is a social enterprise that manages a community allotment scheme based at Bluebell South. Catton Grove
There is a community plot on Catton Grove allotments. Current contact details are available on the site gate.

Cottage Farm
Cottage Farm Allotment and Leisure Gardeners Association organise regular social and horticultural events, regular tea mornings, and sell essentials through the site hut. They also maintain communal sheds on the allotments and are developing a shared community plot on the site. Visit the site hut on Cottage Farm allotments for further information.

Elm Grove Lane
Elm Grove Lane Allotment Association arranges social and horticultural events as well as providing advice and support for new and existing plot holders. For further information please email elmgrovelaneallotmentsociety@gmail.com

Mousehold Avenue North
Stepping Stones Project run their Green Fingers plot from Mousehold Avenue North. The charity supports adults with learning difficulties. More information can be found on the Stepping Stones website.

Mousehold Avenue South
Mousehold South Allotment Association organises regular social and horticultural events. They also help promote the allotments locally and have won prizes for their community plot such. They took first place in Community Gardens and Growing Projects category as part of Norwich in Bloom 2018. Visit the mini-plots and site shed at plot 43.

Dereham Allotments

Dereham Town Council has seven allotment sites around the town, in the following locations:-

​Cemetery Road & Dumpfield – near the Water Tower on Cemetery Road. 

​Scarning – opposite Chestnut Road, behind the bus stop.

​Cherry Lane 1 & 2 – near Dereham Windmill.

​Southend – near Moorgate play area, behind the rugby field.

​Toftwood – the Toftwood site is accessed from Charles Close.

Applying for an Allotment

If you are interested in taking on an allotment, please complete an application form and return it to us. Some sites are more popular than others and so you may have to be added to a waiting list, but do not let this put you off; allotment inspections take place three times a year, with rent collections in October, and during these periods vacancies can often arise.

Thetford Allotments

Thetford Town Council has over 200 allotments on sites in: Bury Road, British Rail, Icknield Way, London Road, Mundford Road & Magdalen Street. There are waiting lists in place for all of these sites. Allotment holders must be residents of Thetford. The standard size for a new allotment plot is 250 sq metres, 125 sq metres for a half plot. But our old plot sizes do vary.

Wymondham Allotments

Wymondham Town Council has one allotment site which is situated off Chapel Lane originally containing 8 allotment plot.Following negotiations with the owner of adjoining land an additional 60 plots were opened in October 2007. Some are full 10 rod plots with others being approx. half sized at 5 rod. Demand has been high and even after filling all the new allotments there is still an extensive waiting list.

To fulfill the requirements of the land owner hard standing parking areas have been installed and water will be available through large 750 gallon storage containers.

Broadland Allotments

Allotments can be found in the following Broadland Parishes:

Acle, Aylsham, Blofield, Brampton, Brundall, Cawston, Coltishall, Frettenham, Gt & Lt Plumstead, Hellesdon, Hevingham, Horsford, Horsham & Newton St Faiths, Horstead & Stanninghall, Lingwood & North Burlingham, Marsham, Old Catton, Reedham, Reepham, Sprowston, Thorpe St Andrew, Weston Longville.

Allotments in the Broadland district area are all managed by Parish / Town Councils or local Allotment Associations.

If you are interested in taking on an allotment, we would suggest you contact your local Parish or Town Council for details.

King’s Lynn Allotments

Renting an allotment is an inexpensive way of getting gardening space to grow fruit, vegetables and plants.

We have 557 plots within King’s Lynn. Without a town council, the responsibility to manage the allotment stock falls to us. Allotments in village areas fall to the respective parish council to manage.

We directly manage five allotment sites within the unparished area of King’s Lynn. These are:

  • Ouse Avenue
  • Wardles Chase
  • Seven Sisters

Great Yarmouth & Gorleston Allotments

Great Yarmouth & Gorleston Allotment Association are the only known Allotment Association in the UK to OWN their own land. This constitutes some 56 acres across all 16 sites located throughout the Borough of Great Yarmouth.

Downham Market Allotment Association, Run by its members for its Members, is a community group set up to help run and maintain the allotments in Downham Market Norfolk.

Allotments in Hunstanton

The Northfields Allotments Club was formed in November 2002 as the result of negotiations between Hunstanton Town Council and Plot Holders of the Northfields Allotments site. There are thirty eight full sized plots on the site many of which have been split into half plots to tackle the long waiting list.

There is a clubhouse and storage compound for plotholders and barbecues and an Open day are held throughout the year with a good level of attendance.

Administration of the site is in the hands of a Committee of nine members with various functions which are at present Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Minute Secretary, Social member and Plot manager.

Watton Allotments

Watton Town Council has two allotments sites. The site at Church Road, adjacent to the cemetery, is owned by Watton Town Council with the Thetford Road site, adjacent to the Tesco store, leased until 2028.

There is a waiting list for allotments and if you wish to apply for your name to be added to the list please contact the Town Council Office with your name, address, telephone number and preference of which site (form can be downloaded from link below).
